Noble gas geochemistry of phenocrysts from the Ciomadul volcanic dome field (Eastern Carpathians)

چکیده

Noble gas isotopic composition of fluid inclusions was analyzed in amphibole, plagioclase and clinopyroxene phenocrysts from the shoshonitic dacitic volcanic products Ciomadul dome field, youngest system within Carpathian-Pannonian Region. The highest Rc/RA ratios (3.0–3.8 RA) were obtained for high-mg Malnaş shoshonite. High-Al amphiboles Bixad pumices have between 1.16 2.11 RA. These values overlap with noble signature present-day CO2 emission. Thus, our new results reinforce conclusion that mantle component primitive magmas has relatively lower compared to nearby Perşani lithospheric mantle. This is likely due thorough metasomatic nature resulting elevated large ion lithophile elements high water content magmas. On other hand, plagioclase-hosted those low-Al are 0.06–0.12 RA 0.39–0.77 RA, respectively defining a dominant crustal origin (>90%) trapped fluids. Noteworthy, these minerals represent low-temperature crystal mush assemblage existed protracted time magma reservoir. We tested fraction contribution different end-member values, considering also effect aging on R/RA longer (up 50 kyr) residence time. resulted maximum ~50–60% high-Al amphibole-hosted lower, ~25% contribution, amphiboles. case can be explained by fresh recharge event shorter before eruption. this study imply inclusion amphibole could reflect magmatic end-member, which strongly metasomatized low values. heterogeneous even restricted area.

Numerical models, geochemistry and the zero-paradox noble-gas mantle.

Numerical models of whole-mantle convection demonstrate that degassing of the mantle is an inefficient process, resulting in ca. 50% of the (40)Ar being degassed from the mantle system. In this sense the numerical simulations are consistent with the (40)Ar mass balance between the atmosphere and mantle reservoir. These models, however, are unable to preserve the large-scale heterogeneity predic...

(U–Th)/He dating of volcanic phenocrysts with high-U–Th inclusions, Jemez Volcanic Field, New Mexico

We measured (U–Th)/He ages of fayalite and hedenbergite phenocrysts with britholite and chevkinite inclusions from the ~1.6 Ma Otowi (Lower) Member of the Bandelier Tuff, Jemez Volcanic Field. U and Th, the major parent nuclides of radiogenic He, are concentrated in britholite and chevkinite inclusions and are essentially absent from the host grains. We analyzed 36 fayalite (21 non-abraded+15 a...

A model to explain the various paradoxes associated with mantle noble gas geochemistry.

As a result of an energetic accretion, the Earth is a volatile-poor and strongly differentiated planet. The volatile elements can be accounted for by a late veneer ( approximately 1% of total mass of the Earth). The incompatible elements are strongly concentrated into the exosphere (atmosphere, oceans, sediments, and crust) and upper mantle. Recent geochemical models invoke a large primordial u...

Volcanic Eruptions: Cyclicity During Lava Dome Growth

Glossary andesite magma or volcanic rock is characterised by intermediate SiO2 concentration. Andesite magmas have rheological properties that are intermediate between basalt and rhyolite magmas. Silica content in andesites ranges from approximately 52 to 66 weight percent. Common minerals in andesite include plagioclase, amphibole and pyroxene. Andesite is typically erupted at temperatures bet...
